Man in Black Ink; Blue/Yellow Man

Top sketch was drawn from life.  Black ink with soft graphite in Moleskine sketchbook.

Bottom watercolor was painted with watercolor markers on 8" x 8" watercolor paper.

  1. As usual, so much drama expressed. Like the colors.

  2. I love how you combine strong lines and the subtle flow of watercolor - such a pleasing contrast. Your firm grasp on the body's proportions amaze me - you make it look so easy! But if it was easy, there would be more art like yours around, but I find yours to be quite unique:-)

  3. Thanks, Anthony and minn.

The black ink sketch that this is based on was drawn over two sheets of moleskine sketchbook. If I can figure out a way to photograph it, I will post it, as well.

  5. Me, too. It is one of the best properties of watercolor.

  8. This guy looks so familiar to me. From the neck up.

  9. Then you probably don't know him from the beach.

I actually have some problem with recognizing faces, a less than average ability.

  10. So do I. And it can be quite embarrassing when someone comes up to you in a public place and they know you but you don't know them from Adam. So I have a few stock phrases I'll throw out as I troll for hints as to identity. I have a really funny story, but it's too risque so I'll probably never tell it.

  11. I was going to say something about Chuck Close, who has an extreme form of the condition, but you have completely distracted me. I really really want to hear the story.

  12. I was immediately struck by his face, he looks like a British actor whose name I can't remember. This is all in keeping with the facts that I'm well above average on face recognition but recalling someone's name is quite a struggle for me.

  13. I'm bad with names too, though I believe in using crutches, like my scribbled notes and iPhone, to help me seem like I am better than I am.
