Mythological creatures in our lives/Can you name this painting?

Update June 3: The painting on the left is the most recent (with special thanks to help from Pasadena Adjacent). I've re-painted a lot because changing the background made me also change the foreground and the girl's face and arm, especially, but some of the difference in colors is due to different light, today.

Original post:
I've painted further on Girl on a Cell Phone in response to some helpful in-person criticisms and reactions. As part of my response to the kind of blank reaction I got to the title and painting, I'm looking for a better title. Any suggestions?

  2. I like the changes in the girl on the cell phone a lot. I wonder if there is a way to make the mural part (?) intrude less into the foreground so that it is a little easier to figure out what is going on. I love the images together, even the shock of it, but perhaps it would make it easier to "see" if there was a little more space between the two planes.

Sorry if the commments or titles aren't helpful.

  3. Thanks for trying. I'll play, too. Only in Silver Lake? Satyr-a-call?

I keep on thinking of AH's earlier description of the satyr whispering, "go ahead and say it" and of the element of embrace, and I've painted those into the painting, but I don't know how to express this stuff in a title.

Ken and Elizabeth you're both right. The painting no longer even remotely reads as a girl in front of a mural; much more a satyr coming out of the background to interact. But that's what I want. I have to think if I want to beef up the girl so she stands up better to the satyr, though.

    Any more ideas?

  7. Girl on a Cell Phone. I tend to use descriptive titles. I've sent you a e-mail to your g-mail

  8. Because the mythological creature reminds me of a faun, I'm going to suggest "Afternoon Of A Cell Phone Girl.'

  9. Thanks, Katherine, PA and K.

PA, in her separate e-mail, gave me something to think about. She suggested coloring the background to be more like the faun. I think it works and it's very effective, and I'm thinking I will likely play with the painting to see if I can do something like it and still retain the feeling I have about the image.

  12. Just caught the update. I like the strong diagonal you've placed into the background as well as bringing in the blues.

  13. Thanks, AH, Margaret and PA. I still don't know the title, but I'm loving this version of the painting.

Margaret, I love the muse suggestion, reminds me of your posts about goddesses. Maybe this faun is the muse of the difficult cell phone conversation?
