Some of Monday's Drawings

These are drawings from life, done in my sketchbook on Monday. The first was a 5 minute pose, the second some 3 minutes poses, the next is a 5 minutes pose, and the last, a 2 minute pose. I used mostly Conte sticks for these; one has inks, too.

  1. Of course you used Conte sticks for these!
    What are Conte sticks again??!

  2. CP, http://www.dickblick.com/products/conte-crayons/ explains it better than I can. They're like a creamier chalk.

  3. Ears, you can do ears! (Sorry, I just like that head, and appreciate things I have never been able to do.)

  4. AH, thanks. Five minutes goes by really fast when you're trying to draw an ear from observation.

  6. Those poses are very short in time!! I would become nervous, I think... Well done! Regards.

  7. Thanks, vivien and Annie. It's a short enough time that it's tiring to draw a couple of hours of it. I think it is more fun for the model, though, because he gets to move much more frequently.

  8. I could never stand working with conte sticks. It;'s the square shape. They always felt awkward between my fingers.
Have you ever worked with bond paper? I remember going to Kelly paper supplys and purchasing some version of it. Muuuuch cheaper then art stores. I recently came across a Kelly warehouse in Pasadena. Off of Fair Oaks near the hospital. Might be worth exploring

  9. Yup, AH, those square sticks (though these were their larger, rectangular relatives). They are awkward, but I like the touch of wax and the colors. Thanks for the tip on the bond paper. I think--though I may be wrong--that Art Center sells loose sheets of it in packs of 10 or 20 pages--but it might be something else.

  10. I'm talking by the pound kind of measurements at a fraction of the price. Art Center is a for profit institution (if you know what I mean).
