Head and Hand

This is a 12"x12" oil on canvas that I painted this morning from an old black and white photo.

It's a painting with no white. Winsor yellow, Naphthol red and Ultramarine blue were on my palette.

  1. This and your July 27 piece remind me of someone who you're probably familiar with but who I just stumbled on to - Lucian Freud. He's my new favorite and I'll be going to the library in a few hours to get something on him, in addition to what I ordered on Amazon.

  2. Lovely — a facial map of memories and concerns, culminating in a single emphatic moment.

  3. K, I think I've only seen Freud's work in reproduction, but much of what I've seen feels moving and personal. This is a link to images of several of his paintings: http://www.literalmagazine.com/pdf/l12_lucian_freud.pdf

Thank you, William. I felt like I was painting a map.

  8. Thanks, Shanna and Katherine.

PA, yup, I'm pleased. For me, it does what I intended.

Margaret, great question, but there really isn't one to tell.

    AH, me, too.
