Reclining Man With Headache; Head of Reclining Man; Hand; Head In Profile; Head In Three-Quarters

 Drawn this morning, from life.

The first two are pastel and charcoal on pastel card.

The last three are Tombow marker and water on Bristol.

In reality, it was not the model with the headache, but me.

  1. These are great. Must be nice to be able to draw from life so late in the year. I’m waiting for the new year for life drawing sessions to begin again.

  2. Those are awfully good, JS. That caption is something else too!

  3. I like the use of warm and cool in the first one and I do especially like the study of the hand...the pull against the staff.

  4. Thanks, Anthony.

I'm lucky to have people like Laura, who runs the Wednesday lifedrawing meetups I regularly attend--and has kept them going this holiday season.

  5. Thanks, Cafe and Shanna.

Cafe, is it the sheer length of the caption, or the use of "orchid", my attempt to use a fancy crayola name for the purple pastel color?

Shanna, this was a pure case of showing up despite how I was feeling, which was like I needed to be lying down with a cool compress over my eyes.

  6. Oh good, it is purple. I think my monitor is just about in sync now.

  7. Okay, I give up. It's a tint of purple (meaning white added), I guess. Since it's a pastel stick and I didn't mix the color myself, I'm not actually sure what went into it.

  8. So sorry about the headache - I hate them. I'm liking the hand, and again the composition with the space on the left.

  9. Thanks, Katherine.

Luckily, it was yesterday's headache, not today's.

Today, I successfully took myself for a swim. Indoor pool, tons of chlorine . . . still fun.

  10. Rare to have a man as a subject.

    Happy New Year Jean

  11. I'm learning much about color here. I need to experiment and get out of my box. Lots of tension with the hand. Love it. The last pic has so much expression.

    Happy New Year.

  13. Margaret, I wish I'd been in more of a mood to appreciate.

  14. For me, the hand on the pole is most . . . gripping.

I do apologize. I was going to say that with a straight face, then heard what I was saying, thought one of the S words, then could not resist saying it anyhow.

Also, it really is my favorite of the day.

  15. My son had a headache on New Year's Eve and I think this must have been how he felt. Transcendent, Jean.

  16. Banjo, no apology required. Glad you enjoy it.

I sketched another hand yesterday, that I'll photo and post later, when there's more daylight.

  17. Paula, glad the headache was transitory. Mine was too.

    And thanks.
