Woman In Blue

 Drawn this morning, from life.

Woman In Blue is Tombow marker and ink, on four sheets of 11"x14"  Bristol paper, about 22"x28" total.

  1. That scar, or whatever it is, on her hip gets a lot of attention (yours or just mine?). Interesting.

  2. Banjo, thanks.

The model has a tattoo. The way I've placed the figure on the page, the tattoo is centered at the base of a "V"--so, yes, lots of attention.

  3. yes my attention was captured too by the scar, it was a tatoo?

  4. She doesn't look happy that everyone thinks it's a scar.

  5. I noticed the tattoo too, but I thought it might be a bruise. I really like the colors of this. Oh! Is it a little mouse?

  6. The tattoo is nice but a rabbit would have been a better choice. That must be why she's not smiling.

You're always true to your model's mood?

  7. Thanks for the comments.

I'm kind of loving the scar/tattoo/what is that blotch there in the center? debate.

Margaret, it kind of looks mouse-like. And it may be. I thought the tattoo was of an armadillo, and it may be.

Paula, I guess we know what tattoo you'd pick. You're bunny-besotted.

Paula, sometimes I am true to the model's mood. This instance was probably pretty close.

I was very taken with the pose, necessitated by the model's ankle injury. It reminded me of some of bathing. So I thought of her in water.

  8. beautiful rendering of the face. Nice line work, simple clean and sparce ala Mattisse (sp?) I don't want to have to look it up.

  9. I like the contours of her body and the gold. She looks sad or is it serious?

  10. I think it's a mouse--or somebody bit her--doesn't matter--it's time to move your very lively figures to canvas. Bristol board's too flimsy for such strong drawings.

  11. Thanks, Susan and LW.

It's been so hot here lately; painting doesn't feel like an option, somehow.

  12. Love the "relaxness " of this figure and the way you colored her.

  13. Thanks, Jane.

I was very taken with the way her body was supported in the pose. It felt tub-like.

  14. Her body pose is tub-like!
I've been obsessed with the idea of letting a painter immortalize my naked body. (It must be the aging process.)
You could include all my tattoos....
    I love your work Jean.

  15. Thanks, Pamo.

I know what you mean, about aging and the desire to immortalize.
