Champion

Champion is Tombow marker and pan pastel on sanded paper, about 9"x12".

Drawn May 30, from life.

The model, Jean-Pierre, is also an artist.  One of his striking paintings (simplified here) forms the backdrop for Champion.

  1. I like that you added the man's painting into the background.

  2. I like that the painting is so huge that it could form a backdrop. Actually, a super cool piece. He has been selling a lot of them.

  3. He's just a little off center, which is good, esp. in a painting full of circles, ovals, etc. Could've been too symmetrical, but you didn't let it.

Let me know when I sound as if I know what I'm talking about. But I did read that in photography, you don't want everything perfectly centered or otherwise too symmetrical.

Putting him in front of his own painting is a fine idea. I like this one.

  4. P.S. That little bit of twist in his pose really adds something good--energy? Or merely interest? For me it's both.

  6. Banjo, thanks. You kind of, do.

I know the shapes aren't technically circles, more like ovoids, but that didn't sound as good to me.

I felt like J-P had added good energy while posing in front of his work.

    Thank you, Blanco.

Thank you, Evelin. Your paintings are beautiful.

  12. Thanks, Najma. I see what you mean. J-P Has African ancestry and maybe that influences his painting. I don't know.

    Thank you, Milton.

  13. AH, that's so funny. I didn't see that and it's so obvious when you say it.

    Mystery solved.
