This is a 10"x14" oil painting on canvas, painted from life in about early 2007, in an uninstructed painting workshop. I believe I used ultramarine blue and titanium white.
Jean I came upon this link I wanted to share with you. It's a show of New Deal artist'. The timing for this theme is rather prophetic (or maybe after the fact) hmmm
Thank you for all of these comments. The model was quite lovely, as was the pose. I like the sketch, too, which is why it has survived without being painted over (unusual for a canvas around here).
PA, thanks for the link to the New Deal artists. I looked at it, but I want to go back and check it out more slowly, again. There's so much there.
Lately, I've been using life drawing as a starting place for works that combine reality, imagination and experience.

A New Deal For Artist 1934
I don't know what I feel about this, JS. Do I want to say "What's this?", or, "Hey, Wow!"
ReplyDeleteI really love this, Jean. There is something to moving and poignant about the figure's expression. This is exquisite!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if its the color that makes it haunting or if its the figure that gives it this quality.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's both.
