Woman In Grey

Painted this morning, from life.

Oil on 24"x36" canvas.

The light this morning was strong.  Blue sky, clear, cold weather, fairly calm.

The model posed in front of a large window, with extra light coming from her left.

Another triumph Jean. Very dreamy look. I like it much.

Cafe, I first thought I'd call it "December Morning Light."

Thanks, Pamo, Anthony and Pierre.

I've changed it a bit since the morning. Now I'm leaving it alone.

I'll re-assess later.

Beautiful Jean. The way you've placed the division line in the background and especially the way you've brought the background into her hair. Very sophisticated bit of painting on your part

What a nice horizontal format. I like the composition, how you've used the space, and the expressiveness of her hands.

She seems young but pensive, which I usually don't associate with a garden setting with that kind of light. It all works.

With all the green you have in this, I don't feel Dec in this one.

But, this work does spark interest in captioning it.

She looks like she's eagerly -- or perhaps nervously -- anticipating something.

Beautiful painting Jean. I love the light in it. It looks like water behind her in an exotic garden.

Cafe, it's December in Austin: One day it's warm and sunny, the next, cold and grey.

Bandit and Ann, I'm glad it feels like anticipation and motion; those parts, I've left untouched.

Thanks, Jeanette. It feels more like water than anything else, maybe pond.

I think this has to be one of my favorites for all the reasons stated on other comments and just because for me, the it works.

Thanks, Annie and Paula.

I've changed it a bit since first posting (this is the most recent version). And I'm glad it still elicits positive response.
