This is an oil painting on a 20"x24" canvas that I painted yesterday. I painted from a photo taken outside an LA coffeehouse. What fascinated me was the relationship between mural and woman and the rhythm of their gestures.
This is a painting in progress. I need to wait and look again.

You know how people get in public and say the most intimate things out loud into their phones? When I first looked at this, I thought the satyr was sort of the god of cell phone conversations. "Go on, say it, tell everyone; you know you want to."

ReplyDeleteCan hardly wait for the finished product, JS.
Which coffeehouse is this from?
Yup, altadenahiker. I think you've got it. I don't know if it's egging her on or just eavesdropping, though.
ReplyDeleteCafe Pasadena, this is from Casbah on Sunset in Silver Lake. Thanks for the encouragement--
Oh yeah, Casbah. I went there once a while back. It's been there 4 a while. Is it on a corner?
ReplyDeleteGive us a brief review.
CP, it's at Hyperion. I can't review it; I haven't tried it. My current favorite for coffee is Jones Coffee Roasters on Raymond in Pasadena. My favorite recent find is King Hua in Alhambra for dim sum. It's just gotten better each time I've tried it. You order off a menu, but very popular dishes are offered from large trays. My favorite expansion is Cafe Verde on Green Street in Pasadena.
