At the Museum: 36"x18" oil painting in progress

At the right is the beginning of the painting. I've positioned the main shapes on the canvas and the basic color distribution.

At the left is the painting in its present state. I was in Paris this March for a few days and had a two day museum pass. So it was museums morning and night for those two days. This is painted from a cell phone photo I took at the Musee d'Orsay. (In my determination to travel light, I left the camera at home, so I have only a few cell photos of the trip.) It was my first visit to this beautiful museum, a converted train station, that houses much of the artwork of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

  1. Oh God, I love the Musee d'Orsay. I have some very romantic memories of that place, and they've all come flooding in at 8:29 in the morning.

  2. By the way, I like the two of these together. They seem to tell a story.

  3. I first visited Paris three years ago and spent the intervening years until this more recent visit, figuring out how to get back. Now, I'm back to figuring out how to make the next visit.

  4. It was fun...I went both days to the Hahamongna event. Visit Trash Tuesday. I've morphed into a performance artist and sent New Town the link. I'm crashing there art show once again.

  5. Musee d'Orsay may be my favorite in Paris.

Really interesting painting - I love the figure way in the background - makes me wonder what the story is.

  6. Thanks, Katherine. I'm so crazy about Paris--and its museums--I don't know if I have a favorite, though I am particularly partial to the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries.

  7. Jean, since my 2006 visit I, too have "spent the intervening years" trying to figure out how to get back. Love, love, love Paris. No visit is long enough.

Like Karin, I'm moved to memories by this pair.

  8. Petrea, the best would be to rent a place there. Well, I can dream.

  9. Time share sounds like too much time/money/details to coordinate. What would be ideal would be working to form connections with folks who live there and might rent out their space/exchange with ours? for limited periods.
