At the Art Gallery (iPad Sketch)
Drawn from life, last night. GrayDUCK Gallery.
It was hot (around 100 degrees F outside) and crowded, last night at the art gallery.
Sketched quickly, while waiting for the gallery owner to speak.

At the Bakery (iPad Sketch)
Drawn from life, at the outdoor seating at Cocola in San Jose, California.
Cocola is a great place to take your laptop and work, or take your sweetie and talk, or take your iPad and draw.
This is the bakery at which afternoon tea was taken, in my earlier iPad sketch of a man and woman.
And Santana Row is nice: somewhat like the Grove in L.A., but with (1) automobile traffic and (2) much greater variety of types of store.
And no canned music or trolley, so less of the Disneyland feel.
Like the Domain in Austin.

Vase with Twelve Sunflowers (iPad Painting)
Drawn from imagination, starting with gray background titled "Vase with Twelve Sunflowers."
Probably started and abandoned by one of my relatives, while I was visiting Portland, Oregon last week.
My brother and sister-in-law grow a fabulous garden, and vases full of flowers fill their rooms.
So I took the title and my memory of the flowers as inspirations and started doodling. This is the result.

At the Fresh Pot (iPad Sketch)
Drawn quickly from life, on iPad, in the early morning last week.
(It turned out he was looking down because a call had come in. He went outside to take it.)
At the Fresh Pot on SW Washington, in downtown Portland.
I just got back from several weeks away from home.
The last five days I spent in Portland, Oregon.
At the Fresh Pot, I recommend the espresso, the cold brew coffee, the plain croissant, the salt bagel--everything I tried.
Also liked the friendly and helpful service and the art on the walls.

Artichoke in Flower (iPad Painting)
Drawn from memory and imagination, this past week, in Portland.
We drove out to Sauvie Island for fresh fruit and found some flowering artichokes.
Drawn with iPad, using Sketch Club app.
I'm discovery a lot of fun features of this app, like the capability of making a photo into a "brush stroke," something I have done in the lower left. (Magnify to see.)

Afternoon Tea (iPad Sketch 11)
This was the first time someone asked me what I was doing.
The man seated behind me asked me about what I was drawing. We talked for awhile, until I got too self-conscious and fled.

At the Gym (iPad Painting Number 9)
Drawn Tuesday night, at the gym.
Still using Art Rage app, still using one layer.
Fairly heavy use of three of the virtual palette knives, in this painting.
Also several brushes, paint right out of the tube, pastel stick, some watercolor and markers and a couple of erasers.
And I started with an underpainting, which in this case means I had already painted an abstract painting on the screen before I painted into it and over it with the figures.

At the Gym 2 (8th iPad Sketch)
In the seconds it took me to suggest the position she was in, the woman finished recording her reps on this leg-work machine on her iPhone and moved away.
I was so absorbed in capturing the gesture, I didn't notice she was seated in a very similar position on a different machine right next to this one.
