Three Deer

Three deer, photographed yesterday afternoon.

The doe closest to me clearly saw me and calmly stayed put while I ran to get my camera and took multiple photos.  She got tired of watching me later and resumed grooming herself.

Update:   I've relocated the photo of the three dears to a new place, one which I'll add to as I explore more of  Austin.

  1. Of course, she just had to look at you that way and she had to turn her ear that way - and now the one to the right has me thinking of Manet's Le déjeuner sur l'herbe...You lucky girl.

  3. Oops, I added the comma by mistake:

  4. Perfect association, Paula. (I might have said, perception, and been fully alliterative.)

They were clearly scanning for threats. Apparently, a woman pointing a camera didn't qualify.

  5. I meant to add: the deer really lunched on the grass--no picnic basket required.

  6. Look at that dear girl pose. And I love the profile of the other. Is that an ocean I see in the distance? I'd better go look at a map -- where the heck is Austin...

  7. AH, would you believe asphalt, or whatever road is made of? It's kind of freaky, these deer with no fear of humans.

  8. These are clearly model deer and might be expecting a treat for posing.

I love it when Nature cooperates with the camera.

  9. Katherine, she seemed to be beyond treat-seeking, much more content and regal. (I can only imagine how pesky she'd be if she actually got treats.)

I couldn't believe I actually managed to photograph this. Nature usually isn't so kind.

  10. PA, no horses, just cars and bikes. Though there are plenty of horses in other nearby areas.

Margaret, magical. But kind of scary: These are not teeny animals, and they can be quite fierce.
