Woman Waiting On A Sunny Morning

Painted this morning, from life.

Oil on 30"x40" canvas.

The figure in the foreground is the figure I painted today.  I painted her on top of an old painting (actually one of my first tries at oil painting on a large scale), probably painted three or four years ago.

Today is unseasonably warm, expected to be in the 70s (F).  We were able to have windows open while we painted.

You incorporated the latest figure quite well into the painting.
I'll have to say- you really know how to push paint around. :-))

Thanks, Pamo. I like the relationship between the two figures, too.

I'll have to give it some time to decide what changes I want to make. But I love that oil paint allows this.

Jean, wow !!!!!
is amazing! fantastic painting!
the two figures have much personality, but that paint today, shows more plasticity with oil,
is full of life!
hair, face, posture ... everything is so great! I loved!
congratulations, what a fine job!!

Wow. I just love how every post looks so unique because of the different mediums you use. This is really fabulous.

Two different images of alone and thought. It seems today is reflecting on yesterday?

Talk about scenes from an exhibition: each woman is so different and so interesting. The one in the foreground reminds of M. Lautrec.

This one has stories - I wonder what she's reading, I wonder what she's thinking?

The skin tones are fabulous.

This is a whole new turn since I've been following you. Very nice! Each woman is interesting alone, but so is the interplay between them--and the lack of it.

The flesh tones on the lighter skinned woman are lush. The light on the right shoulder meeting up with the fall of her pony tail offers some of the best "painting" I've seen you do.

big canvas too

What a gorgeous piece. I'd like to see it in a gallery and feel the energy from it. Please let us know where this one goes.

Love this one. Where is this supposedly taking place?

Jean Spitzer said...

Thanks, all.

AH, Paula and Katherine, I agree. The way these two are paired, you do wonder about their stories.

Thanks, Banjo and PA. PA, it feels good that I can see some progress, for sure, between the two figures.

Thanks, PI. I will.

Thanks, Laura and CO.

Dog, this takes place in two different places and times. Strange, huh?

Very nice painting and the colors are wonderful and bright.

I really like everything about this one: the composition, the color, the strength of the structure, the undulating linear work and the psychological insight into these two figures.

Jean Spitzer said...

Thanks, Cynthia and Shanna.

The original image (of the woman reading) is one I've been obsessed with for some time and will probably re-visit.

I love the contrast between these two, different skin tone, different expressions and poses. It makes for a really interesting study.

I read your most recent post before this. Sounds like wild fluctuations in temperature. Crazy, huh?

Jean Spitzer said...

Thanks, Susan.

Temperature fluctuation around here makes for wardrobes with many layers. Today it started out freezing and went up to the 60s (F).

I liked today's post, and when I scrolled down and found this one I thought of Gauguin. I really love the patterns in this painting - you are doing great!!
