Afternoon Tea (iPad Sketch 11)

Drawn Wednesday afternoon, outdoors at the bakery.

This was the first time someone asked me what I was doing.

The man seated behind me asked me about what I was drawing.  We talked for awhile, until I got too self-conscious and fled.

  1. I have a lot to look at here. I love the composition of this one. You did great things with that color wheel. I looked for sketch club but iPad didn't have it? Have you got an Android?

  2. I'm back. I just came from exploring one of my new followers work: it's photographic special effects. Most amazing. Most chilling. Here's the link: http://www.gigantesquedesaparecen.blogspot.com/

If that doesn't work, click on the big G in my follower line up. You are going to love this. I was blown away. Why this gal wants to follow me I have no idea.

  3. Thanks, Linda.

    I-pad 2.

If for some reason, sketch club isn't available, there are many good drawing apps to try. They tend to be cheap.

  4. Ahahaha, busted. It was only a matter of time. But I'm surprised they noticed because they seem thoroughly caught up in conversation.

  5. They were. They were also several tables away from me, so little chance they'd figure out I was drawing them.

But I was unaware that someone sat down at a table behind me. He was the one who caught me drawing.

  6. I showed him what I was working on and even told him about the app (I really should get a commission), so I didn't flee immediately. Big progress. I'm getting so tough.

  7. I'm pretty bad at the interviewing thing with strangers in public places, although sometimes if they start it, it can go awhile.

I didn't know about this technocrat, but probably should have guessed. This one looks to me like a good magazine piece, the kind of thing NYer does, tho' it's not their style. Is it?

This is weird, but the guy looks to me like a mix of Hollywood actor and Hitler. Aren't you glad you have me on board with my in-depth, trained perspective?

  8. Ciao Jean,
    Ciao, abbracci, Floriana

  9. Hello Jean..
So talented, that it is and the title of this sketch should be "serenity"!!

  10. Thanks, Banjo.

You are right. He had this aggressively dark mustache and I pretty faithfully reproduced here.

  12. Thanks, Bitch. Serenity sounds apt. These folks were definitely appreciative of their time together.

  14. Your i-pad drawings have been fascinating me! I'm in awe.

I think it's wonderful that you continue to find new mediums in which to explore.

Working in public takes courage! You do a wonderful job of it.

  15. Ha, another excellent one! Love the composition and the story it tells...

  16. This has loads of character, a bit of a Lautrec feel too. Love your mix of quick informal sketches and more serious, academic life studies.

  17. Thanks, Pamo.

The beauty of the iPad is that no one necessarily knows you are drawing, if you have the right seat. Guess I need to put my back to a wall, to optimize anonymity

I was very taken w the couple.

  19. Thanks, Rodney.

Not serious, definitely different. Different media definitely elicit different responses.

I think in the work you post, the media seems more consistent, but the subject matter has huge influence on your style.

  20. Fascinating lines and marks. Very energetic. I like the choice to put the empty chair in the foreground.

  21. Thanks, Nora.

Me, too. It gives perspective--the feeling for just how far away I was.
