Shopping for Vegetables and Breakfast at the Cricket Cafe, together
These are what I believe are the completed paintings.
On Shopping for Vegetables, I did considerable re-painting since the last post and completely changed the light. (Thanks, Cafe Pasadena.)
On Breakfast at the Cricket Cafe, I worked mainly on the sign, the female figure and the truck.

Great job. I love the texture and complexity and the contrast of moods: "Shopping" feels warm and convivial, while "Breakfast" feels distant.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Katherine. These are both beautiful, and yet they evoke such different feels and the colors are so wonderful. I think shopping for vegetables is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteDid you push the blues on Cricket Cafe?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katherine and Margaret.
ReplyDeletePA, apparently I did; I wasn't even conscious of that aspect until you made me look. The painting is actually close to the photo in color; this is in natural light this morning.
muy buena imagen , perfecta , natural
ReplyDeleteI especially love "Shopping for Vegetables." Nicely done, Jean!
ReplyDeleteNice colors.. Jean.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Juan Carlos, Elizabeth and a-b.
ReplyDeletethese have a surreal quality I love
ReplyDeleteAnd you have great range! I like them both for completely different reasons. Well done Jean.
ReplyDeleteThis is like nite & day. Very good. Wish I could paint.
ReplyDeleteWow - I love them both! I hope that some day, when I am way more experienced in oils, I'll be able to loosen up and paint expressively, as you do.
ReplyDeleteThank you, all. With this stuff, it's largely time spent painting that's crucial, so I'd better get going with more paintings. I have two canvases--barely--started.
ReplyDeleteCaseytoussaint, I've seen your work. I think it's beautifully expressive; looseness comes and goes for me, but I do love it best.
