Awaiting Results
Drawn from life, yesterday morning.
On 12"x16" pastel paper.
Below is an oil sketch I made this morning, from life and out-of-doors ( en plein air) . Motivation to get a painting space set up, unpack my painting stuff completely and start painting again. I'll get back to working on this particular painting when I can. Reminiscent of this painting.

Both are stunning! You are so prolific. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe drawing on the left reminds me of Toulouse Lautrec
ReplyDeletePA is right. But oh, that one on the right...
ReplyDeleteLet me help you unpack.
Thanks, Pamo. I'm working on getting to the point where I'm drawing daily. Now, I'm up to 3-4 times a week.
ReplyDeletePA, palette and line?
AH, thanks. I could use the help.
I'm glad I'm back to drawing. I love the pastels and the oils, so I want to do both.
sorry
ReplyDeleteI know it's a riding outfit from past experience but it does evoke ascots and top hats.
In terms of technique, more towards his graphics where he uses areas of black against punchy colors. The image I was reminded of is this one with both figures being lit from underneath surrounded by multiple light sources. (although it could be argued that this piece of TL 's is more a in between work)
the lady in red....Oskar Kokashka. I think the Norton Simon has one of his pieces. I'm more of a Lautrec fan
ReplyDeletePA, absolutely, it evokes top hat and ascot.
ReplyDeleteMaybe more like TL now that I rephotographed it in better light. And, yes, TL's work that you link to is less graphic than some I've seen. That link is more delicately playful than I think of his stuff.
I love wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oskar_Kokoschka
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I opened the wikipedia link, I saw that you were referencing the oil sketch. You are fantastic at art association. There's an on-line site where you could play: http://www.openmuseum.org/announcement/show/447
I enlarged the painting, all I can say is I loved it.
ReplyDeleteThe drawing - were you watching people riding? He/she looks grim and I always associate horseback riding with joy.
I saw the title again - now I get it. Perfect.
ReplyDeletePaula, thanks. The model in riding gear actually wore the entire riding outfit (including boots) and posed seated and as at rest as the gear would allow her to be, which was not very.
ReplyDeleteI like both of these a great deal.
ReplyDeleteThank you, -K-. T
