Artist And Model 4 is oil pastel and oil on 12"x16" canvas.
Reclining Woman In Red And Green is oil pastel on pastel paper, about 5"x8".
About these:
Once again, I was very late to this early morning drawing session. So I got another chance to explore the artist and model theme.
The artist this time is Dave, a talented pastel artist and dancer. As you can see, today is sweater weather in Austin (very beautiful).
I expect that I will add to this painting, later.
I also did another small painting for the Brooklyn Art Library Sketchbook Project.
Such spirited strokes in your top painting! I love your freedom.
ReplyDeletethe top image too. swirly hair. and the second image looks like it was done akin to a zoom lens. it pays to be late
ReplyDeletePamo, thanks. Making those marks was fun.
ReplyDeletePA, "it pays to be late." Thanks, I feel better. I maintain that the extreme punctuality--hyper-punctuality--of this particular drawing/painting crowd is unusual.
The only time showing up late is really a problem is when there's no space to set up an easel. Fortunately not the case yesterday.
Both are great. I very much like the first. Nicely done. It will be one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteFinally found an open studio life drawing class here in art bleak Phoenix. Starts next month.
Thanks, Pierre.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found an open studio lifedrawing thing. Probably, finding one will lead to others.
You could always hire a model and invite others to share the cost.
Have you checked out "meet-up"? That's how I found drawing places here in Austin.
I see two horses heads in the top one. If you divide the painting into four quarters, in the upper right quarter there's a mythological looking horse in profile, facing left. And in the upper left quarter, there's a brown horses head -- a warhorse -- in profile, facing right.
ReplyDeleteI feel like a Rorschach test. AH, now that you've pointed them out, I definitely see the one on the right.

ReplyDeleteAnd my daughter just pointed out the one on the left.
ReplyDeletegreat, I like both, your style is unic!
ReplyDeleteIn the top one, I'm seeing the old English Romantic, William Blake. I don't know Blake or art well enough to say that, but there it is.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laura.
ReplyDeleteBanjo, now that you've said it, I see it too.
never did find the horses or William Blake but I do see an opossum head where the man's cowlick starts
ReplyDeletePA, I do too. The horse's head on the left is the model. The one on the right is also in the swirls.
ReplyDeleteThere are probably many paintings out there that lend themselves to this game, right? Not just this one.
Oh! You're trying something new. Half the fun of your blog is to see how your work evolves from day to day. It's fascinating.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, thanks. The impetus for the oil pastels is two-fold. First, I wanted to paint, but oils are not allowed where I draw from life, but the oil pastels are. Second, I wanted something colorful like pastel but a bit hardier for the sketchbook project.
